Canada Visa Lottery- The Facts

 

In the context of real visa lottery, Canada has no visa lottery program as of yet. However the surge of immigrants all over the world especially from war torn countries currently being rejected by USA government  (Donald trump) may force Canada to consider the launching the Canada visa lottery program.

 

Canada Visa Lottery approach

 

Canada launched a program called Interest to Sponsor Parents to replace the current first come and first served approach of sponsoring parents and grandparents of Canadian citizens and permanent residents. The current process appears not to be working as has been widely criticized by many Canadians that in any given year the number of applications far exceed the number of available spots.  The new proposed approach, called a visa lottery system, is designed to provide a fair system  for all applicants, according to a release from Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada.

According to Canada immigration website:

If you are a citizen or permanent resident of Canada, you may be able to sponsor your parent or grandparent to become a permanent resident under the Family Class (FC).

If you sponsor your parent or grandparent to come to Canada as a permanent resident, you must make every reasonable effort to provide for your own essential needs and those of your parent or grandparent. You are responsible for supporting your parent or grandparent financially when he or she arrives. As a sponsor, you must make sure your parent or grandparent does not need to seek social assistance from the government.

 

Rules for the Canada Visa Lottery

The new improved way to sponsor parents to Canada opens an application window between Jan 2nd and February 2nd 2017. Within this time, interested applicants can fill out the form to be added to the pool. According to Canada immigration website:

we will randomly select 10,000 people from among those who submitted the web form.

  • If you are chosen, we will let you know via email and you will have 90 days to send your complete application to IRCC using the 2017 application package. Details on where to submit your application will be in the application package.

  • If you are not chosen, we will let you know via email. You will have the chance to show your interest in sponsoring again in 2018.

The random selection of families to complete the Super Visa application process for sponsoring of parents/Grandparents is termed Visa Lottery.
